Cookies, advertising and your data
Privacy policy
What this site collects, what it does not, and how the advertising works.
The short version
This is a static archive site. We do not ask you to register, we do not run accounts, and we do not collect names, addresses or payment details. The only personal information we ever hold is what you choose to put in an email to us. Third-party advertising and analytics services set their own cookies, and those are described below.
Information we collect directly
Email. If you write to us, we keep your message and address so we can reply and, where relevant, act on a correction or takedown request. We do not add you to a mailing list and we do not sell or share these addresses.
Server logs. Our host records standard access logs — IP address, timestamp, page requested, browser user agent. These are used for security and troubleshooting and are retained for a limited period.
Advertising cookies
This site displays advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve advertisements based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and elsewhere on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user's previous visits to this website.
Analytics
We use aggregate analytics to understand which pages are read. This data is aggregated and is not used to identify individual visitors.
Your choices
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the site will continue to work without them, though advertisements may become less relevant. If you are in the EU, UK, or a US state with comparable legislation, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any personal data we hold about you — in practice, that means the contents of any email you have sent us. Write to hello@gitanecafenyc.com.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
External links
We link to news reporting, review sites and booksellers. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their policies.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted on the homepage.
